(from Bentley Press Release) Bentley Motors is proud to announce the introduction of the Continental GTC. The new luxury 2+2 convertible completes the Bentley Continental model range following the introduction of the highly successful Continental GT in 2003 and four-door Continental Flying Spur earlier this year. The new Continental GTC goes on sale in late 2006.

With a top speed in excess of 190mph (304 km/h), a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, state-of-the-art 12-cylinder engine, advanced air suspension and ultra-stiff body structure, the Continental GTC displays all the poise, exhilarating performance and dynamic handling of the Continental GT. In common with its stable mates, the interior of the new Continental GTC provides an unrivalled standard of craftsmanship, utilising natural wood veneers and leather hides of the finest quality.

While sharing the familiar face of the Continental family, the design personality of the new Continental GTC is distinctive and unique, as Bentley’s design director Dirk van Braeckel explains: “With the Continental GTC we set out to achieve a style that is both contemporary and elegant but with the sporting stance of a true performance car. We also wanted to ensure that the Continental GTC looks just as beautiful with the roof up as it does when it’s down.

“In keeping with the Bentley tradition, the new Continental GTC has a soft fabric roof and heated glass rear screen. When stowed below its hide-covered tonneau, efficient packaging ensures excellent space for both rear passengers and their luggage.”

The Continental GTC becomes the second convertible to grace the current Bentley range. It follows the recently announced return of the evocative Azure name for Bentley’s Arnage-derived flagship four-seater convertible which goes on sale in Spring 2006.

While the Azure offers the ultimate in glamour and sophistication, the Continental GTC is designed for customers looking to enjoy the phenomenal performance, style and excitement of the Continental GT with the additional benefits of classic open-top Bentley motoring.

“The Continental GTC is the third step in our new product and segment strategy,” explains Bentley chairman Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. “It will again open up the Bentley brand to more customers who only buy convertibles, as well as being a logical next car for our existing owners.”

Further details, including full technical specification, market availability and pricing will be released nearer to the Continental GTC’s on-sale date.

(from Project Kahn Press Release) Project Kahn have always prided themselves on producing extremely exclusive vehicles but recently they have turned their hands to prestige marques. One of the latest concepts from Project Kahn is the Bentley Continental GT. The stunning looks of this car cannot be disputed. However they can be improved.

Kahn have a reputation for producing the most stunning cars on the road with exclusive Kahn extras, and the Bentley Continental GT is no different.

The newest wheel in the Kahn range, the RS-X, has been specially developed for the Bentley range including the Continental GT. The fitment for the RS-X is 9x21” (Front) and 10.5x21” (Rear). As well as the new RS-X the RS-V is also available. The RS-V, for the Bentley GT is 9x20” all round. The wider setting on the rear, with the RS-X gives a truly stunning “wide track” look. Either alloy provides a unique look.

Another addition to the GT is the Kahn boot spoiler which not only adds to the looks of the car but also to the vehicle aerodynamics. Further to these additions, Kahn have also produced a lowering module especially for the Bentley range as well as privacy glass.

When you combine all of these superb additions you are given a car with looks that are beyond belief together with handling that you simply cannot achieve with a standard Continental GT.

(from Bentley Press Release) This year, Bentley Motors celebrates 60 years of hand-assembled car production at its historic factory in Crewe. To commemorate Crewe’s Diamond Jubilee, Bentley is announcing a limited series of the Continental GT coupй, the most successful car in the company’s illustrious history.

“Bentleys have been renowned for their sporting performance and craftsmanship since the very start of the company, way back in 1919,” says Bentley Chairman and Chief Executive, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. “Since the move to Crewe in 1946, Bentley has created a long line of sporting models with an unrivalled standard of craftsmanship that reflects the unique skills of the Bentley workforce.”

The Continental GT Diamond Series, based on the 2007 model year Mulliner Driving Specification, features an exclusive package of enhancements that, in keeping with the Bentley tradition, combines sporting performance with cosseting luxury. Many of these features are unique to this very special model including carbon ceramic brakes, a production-first for Bentley, and new 20-inch, 14-spoke alloy wheels.

“The Continental GT coupй remains true to the Bentley traditions of performance, luxury and craftsmanship while showcasing the modernity of today’s Bentley model range. It has been a magnificent success since its launch in 2003,” says Dr Paefgen. “The GT Diamond Series is a fitting tribute to the skills of the Bentley workforce and reinforces Bentley’s growing reputation for advanced technology.”

Production of the Continental GT Diamond Series is restricted to 400 cars for worldwide distribution and shares the limelight with the Arnage Diamond Series to form a double celebration of the 60th anniversary of Bentley production at Crewe. (See separate press release for details of the Arnage Diamond Series.)

New carbon ceramic brakes further improve all-round performance

The braking system of the standard Continental GT already features the largest diameter brake discs of any production passenger car on sale today. The new Continental GT Diamond Series further extends the car’s performance boundaries by using new carbon ceramic brakes, a first for a production Bentley.

Boasting 420 x 40 mm carbon-silicon carbide, cross-drilled front discs and 356 x 28 mm rears, the new brakes are even larger than the standard GT. The new brakes offer significant performance benefits together with a 23 kg reduction in rotating unsprung mass benefiting steering response and handling.

“The standard Continental GT has the biggest brakes fitted to any production car, so braking performance is already superb,” says Member of the Board, Engineering, Dr Ulrich Eichhorn. “The carbon ceramic brakes deliver a major improvement in braking performance and pedal feel, while their lighter weight benefits both vehicle handling and steering response. Bentley believes in building the ultimate. Carbon ceramic brakes are another example of this philosophy.”

The Continental GT Diamond Series features new open-design 9J x 20-inch, 14-spoke forged alloy wheels giving a good view of the handsome new brakes and their impressive black, 8-piston front callipers. More importantly, these bigger wheels improve road holding as well as brake cooling.

Evolved from the Mulliner Driving Specification

The Continental GT Diamond Series is based on the Mulliner Driving Specification, designed by Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division in direct response to customers’ requests for a GT with a more overtly sporting, contemporary character.

The Diamond Series features derived from the Mulliner Driving Specification include quilted rather than straight-fluted leather seats, quilted door casings, solid drilled alloy brake and accelerator pedals, leather and chrome sports gear lever – with knurled top – and dark stained walnut or piano black wood, for a sportier appearance.

Externally, the Diamond Series is distinguished by unique tread plates and badges and a Mulliner alloy fuel filler cap.

The magnificent W12 twin-turbo 6-litre, 552bhp engine is unchanged, as is the six-speed automatic transmission with manual change mode and paddle shift. The four-wheel drive system with Torsen differential, and air suspension with continual damping control benefit road holding and primary safety. As with the normal Continental GT, the Diamond Series model has an official top speed of 198mph – although some independent tests have suggested its true maximum is over 200mph.

The three additional Diamond Series colours are Moroccan Blue (bright blue), Anthracite (grey black) and Meteor (steel blue grey). It is expected that over 80 percent of customers will opt for one of the special colours, although the existing 15 Continental GT colours may also be specified.

Continental GT: an ongoing Bentley success story

“Our research shows buyers of the Continental GT value, above all, the Continental GT’s sporty and classical design, its awesome performance, the appeal of the Bentley marque as well as its sheer practicality,” says Dr Paefgen. “Eighty percent of all Continental GT customers are new to the Bentley marque, migrating not only from top-end luxury coupйs but also supercars such as Ferrari – attracted by its mix of high performance and extraordinary refinement. More than two years after sales began, worldwide demand for the Continental GT remains strong.”

Bentley Mulliner Driving Specification in detail

The new Mulliner Driving Specification is the first significant product development for the Continental GT since its launch. The new package also marks the first occasion that Bentley Mulliner, the world’s most respected coachbuilder, has been able to demonstrate its unique skills on the Continental GT.

The Mulliner Driving Specification will be available to Bentley Continental GT customers as a complete package and is designed to enhance the sporting appearance of the car by introducing contemporary materials and tones to the already exquisite cabin.

“When the Continental GT was first launched we intentionally made more of a grand touring statement in terms of its visual feel, especially inside the car. The GT has proved to be an unequivocal sales success around the globe. However, some potential buyers have demanded the Continental GT reflects a more overtly sporting character, so the Mulliner Driving Specification was the obvious next step.”

Robin Page, head of interior design, Bentley Motors

To fulfill those requests for a more sporting character, the new package comprises 20-inch two-piece alloy sports wheels, drilled alloy sports pedals, a new gearlever with knurled top and aluminium surround, diamond-quilted hide for the seats, doors and rear quarter panels, indented hide for the roof headlining, embroidered ‘Bentley wing’ seat emblems and a choice of piano black or dark-stained burr walnut veneer.

The mighty Bentley Arnage T seemed like the perfect place to start when Bentley Mulliner’s design team considered how to create a Continental GT with a more sporting appearance. The Arnage T’s use of diamond quilted hides and aluminium trim options to the pedals and facia gives it a distinct and purposeful look – a powerful representation of the Bentley theme.

Those same materials are used to make the Mulliner Driving Specification the most contemporary Bentley yet. Bold, two-tone leather and dark veneer combinations give the car a modern yet distinct feel, much like a fashionable driving watch. By combining heavily lacquered, dark veneers with lighter seat leathers, the Continental GT’s interior becomes a place of intent and focus. The use of dark woods also acts as a helpful contrast to the beautiful, jewellery-like switchgear and brighter trim that is introduced with the Mulliner Driving Specification.

“Creating a different feel is as much about the tactile nature of a car’s interior as producing a stunning overall design. When people hold a beautifully created, handmade steering wheel or rest their feet on drilled alloy pedals, it’s those little touches that combine to give a really big overall impression.”

Robin Page, head of interior design, Bentley Motors

Even the appearance and feel of the beautiful leather hides used for the Continental GT have not escaped the attentions of the Bentley Mulliner design team. Diamond quilting has been applied to the seat cushions and squabs in both the front and rear as well as the door and rear quarter panels. This diamond pattern is a classic Bentley performance cue and is as much a nod to the heritage of this great sporting marque as it is the perfect design tool for the Mulliner Driving Specification.

1280x960 wallpaper

1600x1200 wallpaper

1600x1200 wallpaper

The hides used to line the cabin headlining have also been given a distinctive addition in the form of embossed indentation. This look, much like the back of the iconic leather driving glove, is another subtle reference to the car’s potential. Simple devices though they are, both the fluting and hide indentation have specific purposes, as Robin Page explains:

“The Mulliner Driving Specification has a slightly different flute pattern to the Arnage T. In the Arnage T we use a squarer diamond shape, but in the Continental GT it is a more recognisable ‘playing card’ diamond. If you look closely you will see that the diamond is reflected in the knurled texture we have applied to the new gearlever and they have tremendous impact when you put them together.”

Robin Page, head of interior design, Bentley Motors

A final visual aid to help create that unmistakable sporting presence is the introduction of a new 20-inch two-piece alloy sports wheel to replace the standard 19-inch versions currently available on the Continental GT. This seven-spoke rim has a combination of chrome and silk finishes while retaining the distinctive ‘Bentley Motors’ hub.

The new two-piece sports wheels also wear a brand new tyre created exclusively for the larger rim. Designed on behalf of Bentley by Yokohama, the Advan Sport 275/35 R20 tyre provides significant benefits for drivers looking for even sportier handling and improved steering feel and response.

The culmination of an intensive development programme carried out by both Bentley and Yokohama engineers, the new tyre has a lower sidewall that provides sharper turn-in feel and precision. The Advan Sport manages to deliver increased performance without noticeable reduction in overall ride quality, meaning drivers will continue to enjoy the unparalleled luxury of a Continental GT and now benefit from its increased sporting characteristics.

New specification and options for all Continental GT customers

As well as the new Mulliner Driving Specification, Bentley is announcing changes to the 2005 Model Year Continental GT. The car’s standard specification is being enhanced, and a new range of factory and Bentley Mulliner options is available for purchase individually.

The standard specification Bentley Continental GT will now come with telephone voice activation system that can operate in six languages, allowing the driver to operate the in-car telephone using steering-wheel mounted controls and voice dialling. In addition to voice activation, customers also have the option to delete the privacy telephone handset currently mounted in the front passenger armrest, thereby freeing up additional storage space.

New interior trim options are also added to the standard specification. For the first time the Continental GT is available with an additional main hide colour – Magnolia. The car’s carpets can also be specified to match either the main or secondary hide. Lastly, the seatbelt colour can also be matched to either the main or secondary hide colours, regardless of the carpet colour chosen.

New factory-fitted options that are available for purchase individually include a two-tone, hide trimmed multi-function steering wheel which is recommended for cars with contrasting main and secondary hide colours.

The new range of individual Bentley Mulliner options for the Continental GT brings the unparalleled craftsmanship of the Mulliner coachbuilding division to every customer. This year marks the 80th anniversary of HJ Mulliner’s first commission for Bentley Motors and since then the Mulliner name has established itself as the world’s leading creator of coachbuilt cars.

Now Mulliner options can be specified individually for the 2005 model year Continental GT, meaning customers can create individual statements with every car ordered. The new range consists of a beautiful Mulliner alloy fuel cap with a Bentley ‘B’ badge and knurled finish for improved grip, that mirrors the interior switchgear design cues.

To provide added visual appeal to the seats and door panels, exquisite contrast and cross-stitching is being introduced. For single-tone interiors a list of approved thread colours is available. For two-tone interiors, thread for the main hide is matched to the secondary hide and vice versa.

To complement the new dark veneers and alloy trim of the Mulliner Driving Specification, aluminium facia panels can be ordered to replace the veneer on the instrument panel and centre console. Bentley Mulliner has designed these beautifully crafted panels to be combined with dark veneers and a single tone interior throughout the rest of the cabin, allowing the aluminium to make a full visual impact.

Two premium wood veneers – Vavona and Olive Ash – can be specified through the optional Mulliner range, as well as the choice of lambswool rugs or deep-pile carpet mats with hide trimming to provide added comfort and protection to the footwells.

The Continental GT success story continues

The announcement of the new Mulliner Driving Specification and 2005 model year changes for the Bentley Continental GT is just the latest chapter in the car’s brief but remarkable history. Sales of the four-wheel-drive coupй have exceeded the company’s wildest expectations and have driven Bentley to new sales records across the globe.

With demand showing no sign of diminishing, this incredible transformation in Bentley’s sales performance reflects the extraordinary public response to the Continental GT.

“There has been a brilliant reaction to the Continental GT in all our major markets. Whether you talk to dealers in the United States, Britain, Germany or wherever, the feedback is always the same – customers just love this car.

“We are very proud of this success story and the way that the Continental GT is flying the flag for Bentley and the British motor industry around the world. That’s why we are so pleased to be able to introduce the new 2005 model year Continental GT and the beautiful Mulliner Driving Specification, demonstrating clearly how well we respond to customer demand.”

Mark Tennant, marketing director, Bentley Motors

The 2005 model year Bentley Continental GT retails at Ј112,750 (including VAT), although the original price – which was announced more than 12 months ago – will still apply to all existing orders. The 2005 model year prices in full are as follows:
